Course Description:

In this course, you will learn to use a variety of computer applications useful for teaching and learning, and you will build your own web site. We will explore three main topic areas: Technology and Online Content, Technology and Digital Media, and Technology for Classroom Teaching. During this course you will have hands-on time with many applications.

As the class schedule indicates, we will be exploring several applications that can be used in the classroom with students or for teacher productivity. We will be using this software to create, explore, and manipulate digital media. The themes of our technology survey will include websites & Wikis, Courseware, Productivity tools, Interactive Media, WebQuests, Digital Video Production & Editing, and online Collaborative tools.

Class Format

The first half class will be devoted to lectures, demonstrations and discussions. The remaining class time will be devoted to hands-on laboratory activities.

Computer Availability

The TEP Keck Laboratory Classroom contains 40 networked Apple computers and an ACS laser printers for student use.  This facility is available to you from 8:30-4:30 Monday through Friday. Both labs have comparable software applications loaded.

Throughout this course we will be creating accounts with several free web portals and sites.

For access to the lab outside these hours please see your course instructor.

Course Learning Outcomes:

1. In this course, you will learn to use a variety of computer applications and advanced technology tools to examine and explore the use of technology supported curriculum in the K-12 classroom.

2. You will also research the connection between technology and learning, exploring its current effects and application in the classroom and its potential to transform the way we teach and learn.

Evaluation of Student Performance (Full Assignments):

Your grade for this course will be based upon:

How-to’s and Help

1. Create a Delicious account with at least five bookmarks (use the tag “EDS203”)

  • Bookmark 5 good educational sites
  • Add the specialized tag “EDS203”
  • Create RSS feed to receive “push” feeds for the delicious tag “EDS203”

2. Create an educational Netvibes page (be sure to link to the PUBLIC dashboard page that you make)

  • Make several feeds on your netivides page.
  • Include a feed for our Delicious tag "EDS203" with http://feeds.delicious.com/v2/rss/tag/EDS203 (note that feeds update twice per hour)

3. Make a Wordle from one of your own papers. Include this in your website with some analysis.

  • Take a screen shot of your Word Cloud.
  • Add this word cloud to your Weebly Portfolio in the Assignments tab or under its own tab.
  • Write 2-3 paragraphs describing what you thought the point of your paper was and what the word cloud indicates about the point through the words you used.

Check out the Movie you made

1. Create a 1-Minute movie.

  • Upload the movie to your Weebly ePortfolio in the EDS203 Assignments section. Include the names of everyone in your group. You can each upload the file or one person upload and others link to that file.

1. Prezi Yourself: Create a short Prezi that represents you as a teacher. You may make this as detailed as you like, but there should be at least 5 slides;

  • An Introduction to you
  • Your thoughts on student learning
  • Your thoughts on including social justice to your teaching
  • Your thoughts on access for your studnets
  • How you will contribute to the education of your students

2. Create a tech infused activity in GoogleDocs. Copy this doc to your GoogleDocs and share with group members. Put a link to the “Public” document in your assignments page.

3. Create a rubric for the main assessment in your lesson plan. This should be included on the lesson plan.
