Course Goals and Objectives

To gain experience in the use of word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, the Internet, and graphics. We will be focusing on ClarisWorks (now AppleWorks) specifically, and most standard computer applications in general and to to gain experience integrating current educational technology with traditional curriculum practices.

Reading Assignments and Course Textbook

"ClarisWorkshop for Teachers" by Janet Caughlin.

Assignments: You are expected to attend class and labs regularly and you will need your textbook to complete the required labs. A folder containing specially prepared files for textbook practice and exercise labs will be found in the Documents folder on the classroom computers. Each student in the class will have a "drop folder" on the TEP Server that you will access over the network. In general, when you are instructed to print the results of a practice or exercise item, please do not print (save a tree). Instead, you are expected to transfer only the final product of each exercise into this folder (use your own judgment on what to save in the drop folder and on you disk since the exercises may have many steps and you only need to transfer the final version, not each iteration). At the end of each work session, you must also systematically keep a backup copy of all your work on a floppy disk in case something happens to the file server.

To insure you receive credit for each activity, please use the following file-naming convention:

(i.e. , Halter_Ex3 or Halter_Autobiography)
